Build your life on the foundation of the Bible.
A building with a strong foundation may last a life time, and show signs of ruin externally but the foundation will be unshakable. Our lives built on God's Word are similar. We may still have problems and face turmoil in life, but we have a foundation that can't be shaken. The Bible is living and active (Hebrews 4:12). It is inspired by God and useful for teaching us what is true, and it corrects us when we are wrong (2 Timothy 3:16). It is not an ancient book full of lore and outdated stories. It is the very book that we can get to know our Savior, learn to love others, and how to do life! We are to be doers of God's Word. So let's start building our foundation on the Bible and withstand whatever life may have for us!
Read the following passages and then consider the questions at the end.
In Matthew 7:24-27 (CSB), Jesus said, "Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. It collapsed with a great crash.”
2 Timothy 2:15 (CSB), "Be diligent to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth."
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (CSB), "All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
Psalm 1:1-3 (CSB), "How happy is the one who does not walk in the advice of the wicked or stand in the pathway with sinners or sit in the company of mockers! 2 Instead, his delight is in the Lord’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted beside flowing streams that bears its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers."
Psalm 119:11 (CSB), "I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you."
James 1:22 (CSB), "But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."
The next session will give you some solid reasons you can trust the Bible.
